Tales for the Long Nights is a tactical roguelike adventure where survival is never a given. It feels like the world is actively conspiring against you, and to its credit, it’s doing a spectacular job. As a traveling merchant, recruit a team of mercenaries, fight off the many things that want you dead and try to turn a profit before something eats you.
Engage in strategic combat, loot everything that isn’t nailed down, discover new abilities and craft epic gear (or at least something stabby). No two journeys are the same, new allies, abilities, random events and disasters await with every run. Adapt or perish because you are outnumbered, outmatched, and very likely out of luck.
Your Own Band of "Heroes"
Every great adventure starts with a questionable hiring decision. And here you are, recruiting a band of mercenaries with wildly different skill levels, personal grudges, and at least one active bounty. Do you put your faith in the stubborn knight who refuses to certify his lineage, or the bard whose only documented talent is being forcibly removed from taverns? Choose wisely—loyalty is negotiable.
Learn Just Enough Magic to Get Yourself in Trouble
As you fumble your way through an increasingly hostile world, you’ll unlock powerful abilities and team synergies that just might prolong your inevitable doom. A well-timed spell combo could turn the tide of battle, while a badly timed decision could leave you negotiating parley with the spiky end of a club. Experiment, adapt, and enjoy the fleeting moments of feeling like an unstoppable force—before the game gently reminds you that hubris is a dangerous thing.
Stare Down Certain Doom
Monsters. Marauders. A dragon that’s about five minutes away from turning you into a cautionary tale... It might feel like the world is actively conspiring against you, but to be fair, it's always like this. Engage in brutal, tactical battles where every ability matters, and victory hinges on strategy, luck, and possibly a bit more luck. Will your party emerge victorious, or will their heroic deeds be reduced to the long sigh and shaking head of a (not-so-genuinely) grieving relative? Either way, it’ll make for a good story.
Take the Road Less Paved
(Even Though Wagons Do Notoriously Badly Off-Road)
Travel across a vast, unruly world, where no two journeys are the same. Chart a path through deep forests, mountain passes, and places that really should have more warning signs. Every route you choose is a gamble—fortune, danger, or an incredibly awkward encounter with a territorial ogre could be just around the bend.
